How to get cited by ChatGPT.

Eight steps, ranked by leverage
- 01
Register in Bing Webmaster Tools
ChatGPT Search runs on Bing's organic index. Brands invisible to Bing are invisible to ChatGPT Search. This is the single highest-ROI single action available, and it is free. Verify the domain, submit the sitemap, fix Bing-reported errors. Day-one work on every ANTE engagement.
- 02
Get included in third-party listicles
Listicles drive 40 to 72 percent of LLM citations (Quoleady March 2026 study of 10,000 SaaS prompts). Identify the 15 to 30 listicles your category buyers cite. Pitch each editor with a one-paragraph rationale and a single ask: "consider us for the next quarterly refresh." Track to placement.
- 03
Earn brand mentions, not just backlinks
Ahrefs December 2025 analysis of 75,000 brands: brand mentions correlate roughly 3x more strongly with AI visibility than backlinks (brand web mention correlation approximately 0.66 versus domain rating correlation approximately 0.27). Pitch podcasts, write named-author guest posts, accept podcast invitations. The mention matters even when the linker forgets the link.
- 04
Ship schema that AI engines actually parse
Organization, ProfessionalService, Person (founder), FAQPage, Article, Product (DTC), BreadcrumbList. Every sub-page gets a WebPage and a Breadcrumb entity. Schema is the unambiguous machine-readable version of who you are, what you sell, and who runs you. AI engines lean on it when natural-language extraction is uncertain.
- 05
Publish and maintain a real llms.txt
The llms.txt spec gives AI engines a curated, structured map of your site. Pricing, services, founder identity, topic coverage. ANTE treats it as good hygiene, not a primary lever. Worth doing in week one, not worth obsessing over.
- 06
Participate in Reddit as the founder
Reddit citation share grew roughly 73 percent on Perplexity in tech categories between late 2025 and early 2026. Real account, real founder, real value, no astroturfing. Pick three subreddits your buyers read, comment for 12 weeks, then occasionally link. The order matters; pure self-promotion is removed and penalized.
- 07
Write cite-able passages
Princeton GEO paper (KDD 2024) tested nine content interventions. The top performers were adding quotations, adding statistics, and citing sources, which lifted visibility up to roughly 40 percent over baseline. Every passage on a content page should include at least one named statistic and one named source.
- 08
Make the founder a named, schema-typed entity
Lily Ray's March 2026 spam-update analysis found that pages with strong Author entity signals (Person schema with image, knowsAbout, alumniOf, sameAs) recovered or grew while pages with no named author were demoted. Founder-led brands have an advantage here that they often fail to use.
